La Salle Tennis Fundraiser a Smashing Success

Nov. 12, 2007

The La Salle men's and women's tennis teams held their annual fundraiser this past Saturday at the Southhampton tennis club. The fundraiser, which raised money for the teams' annual spring break trip, was a night for friends, family, former players and supporters of the La Salle tennis program to come out and interact with current players and coaches.

Many guests in attendance were very impressed with the recent progress of the men's tennis program which went 8-4 this fall under head coach Ed Colfer.

"The team that Eddie has assembled this year for La Salle is one of the best group of guys that La Salle Tennis has had in decades,"said Matt Howley, class of `94. "I look forward to following the team and seeing how far these guys can go this upcoming spring and how they can continue to build the program up these next few years."

The guests of the Explorers Tennis program were treated with the chance to play on the indoor clay courts with the current La Salle team members in addition to getting to interact with them over food and refreshments.

This year's gala attracted an all-time high of 67 guests. Colfer attributes the popularity of the event to the exposure the Explorers have recently gotten after a steady fall campaign. "Tonight really showed, by the number of supporters we had here, how many people have taken interest in our team and the steady progress we've made as a program this year," said Colfer. "This year more than ever we've taken giant steps in beginning to bring this program to the level that it belongs and I'd like to thank everyone that came out to support the team tonight and continue believe in our program."

The Explorers are currently training indoors during the winter months and open up their spring campaign March 17, 2008 with a road match against Hofstra University.
