Women's Tennis Falls to Rhode Island

Oct. 6, 2007

The La Salle women's tennis team was shut out on Saturday afternoon by the Rams of Rhode Island.

In doubles Rachael Barnhart and Lauren Perry were downed by the Rams number one doubles team, 8-2. At number two, Martha Kutteh and Christina Gomez lost, 8-1, against Christen Cadigon and Brooke Hoover of Rhode Island. The Explorers, who have struggled with injuries this season, forfeited the number three doubles slot.

In singles, it was all Rams. Rachael Barnhart put up a fight at number one, but was unable to upend Grace Heastian, who added to the Rams win total with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. At number two, Lauren Perry lost by almost the exact same score, 6-2, 6-3. The number three through number five spots belonged entirely to Rhode Island, as they only dropped one game total between the three matches. The number six singles position was forfeited by La Salle due to injuries.

The Explorers return to action this week, as they take to the road to face Rider University.
