Softball's Shepherd, Bisbiglia Earn A-10 All-Conference Honors

May 7, 2008

PHILADELPHIA, PA- After winning the most games since 1997 (22), two La Salle softball players have been recognized by the Atlantic 10 as members of the All-Conference teams, as voted on by the conference sports information directors.

Freshman shortstop Ali Shepherd (Philadelphia, PA/ Creative & Performing Arts) was named to the All-Rookie team, the second year in a row an Explorer student-athlete has earned this honor (last years' award went to third baseman Mary Pat Conville).  Shepherd was named one of the best freshmen in the A-10 after posting a season .275 batting average, including 17 RBI's, three homers and five doubles.  She started in all but one game for La Salle and was named A-10 `Rookie of the Week' in March after hitting a double, triple and home run in one doubleheader.

Sophomore first baseman Angelina Bisbiglia (Sewell, NJ/ Camden Catholic) was named to the All-Conference Honorable Mention team after tying the team for most homers with five, and batting .291 on the season.  She had a team-high 32 RBIs, 17 runs and 10 doubles.  She also boasted a .980 fielding percentage.

The Explorers ended their season with an overall 22-24, 8-12 A-10 record.  The final series of the year featured La Salle sweeping Fordham University 6-0, 4-3 for the first time since 1997, the most recent year an Explorer softball team had more wins then the '08 squad.  The team wrapped up the season with a banquet on Sunday, May 4th, where graduating seniors Michelle Sullivan and Kate Gulkis were recognized.
