LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ- The La Salle Explorers improved to 14-20, 4-8 A-10 as they took the first game 7-4, and the second 11-1 against the Rider University Broncs (9-22, 2-2 MAAC) on Tuesday afternoon.  Explorer hurler Gina Massaro (Havertown, PA/ Hartford) advanced her season record to 3-10 with the win in the first game, and sophomore Laura Beth McCreesh (Philadelphia, PA/ St. Basil) took the win in game two to improve to 8-4. 

 

Junior Danielle Signorelli had a solo homer, her second of the season.  In the second game, McCreesh had a three-run blast, her third of the year. 

 


 

 

In the first game the Broncs would score two unearned runs in the second to take a 2-0 lead, but the Explorers bounced right back in the top of the third with the bases loaded Signorelli was hit by a pitch to walk in the first run.  Sophomore Mary Pat Conville (Jamison, PA/ Archbishop Wood) reached on a fielder's choice and got an RBI as junior Alicia De La Rosa (Yorba Linda, CA/ Rosary) scored to tie it 2-2.  The Explorers took the lead for good as sophomore slugger Angelina Bisbiglia (Sewell, NJ/ Camden Catholic) blasted her sixth double of the season to left center field to score to more runs and take a commanding 4-2 lead.

 

Two hits would give Rider two more runs in the bottom of the third, but La Salle stayed one step ahead the next inning as senior Michelle Sullivan (Gibbstown, NJ/ Paulsboro) walked and then scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-4. 

 

Signorelli led off the fifth with a solo homer- her second of the season, and senior Kate Gulkis (Philadelphia, PA/ St. Basil) would score on an error by the Rider catcher to make the final 7-4.

The Explorers offense was sparked by McCreesh's three-run homer in game two to take a 3-0 lead in the third.

A huge fourth inning would put the game away for La Salle as freshman Ali Shepherd (Philadelphia, PA/ Creative & Performing Arts) and McCreesh would each bring in a run, and Massaro tripled in three runs as the Explorers had four hits to score eight runs in that inning- helped by four Rider fielding errors. 

The Broncs would score their lone run in the bottom of the fifth on a walk and the Explorers ended the contest early with an 11-1 mercy rule victory.

Next the Explorers will head to cross-town rival Temple University to face the Owls on the road on Friday, April 18th at 3:00 PM, and Saturday, April 19th at 12:00 PM, played at Temple-Ambler.
