The La Salle field hockey team has gotten off to a fine start this season, jumping out to a 4-3 record. This week's La Salle Student-Athlete of the week, freshman midfielder Beth Carey (Lebanon, PA/Lebanon High School), has been a major reason for the Explorers' early success.

Carey has been selected as Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week three times so far this season, and is currently the top-scoring freshman in the conference with six points.  She began her collegiate career by scoring a goal in her first match, a 2-0 La Salle victory over Monmouth University.

Carey's latest achievements include an assist in the Explorers 4-0 win over Duquesne University on September 9. 

At Lebanon High School, Carey was a Lancaster-Lebanon First Team selection as a junior and senior while serving as team captain both seasons as well.  She won National Festival Gold Medals in 2004 and 2006, NIT gold medals in 2005 through 2007, and a Keystone Gold Medal in 2005.  She was also an All-County/All-State selection.
