Oct. 27, 2007

Box Score

West Chester exploded for three second-half goals to down La Salle on Saturday afternoon at a rain-soaked DeVincent Field.

Despite outshooting West Chester 15-9, the Explorers were unable to get on the board, as they were shut out for the fourth time in five games. Whitney Madron led La Salle with five shots on the afternoon.

The two teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half. The Explorers put up nine shots in the period, while holding the Golden Rams to two. Early in the second half, Sarah Conrad broke the tie with her ninth goal of the season. Lauren Dubois would stretch the lead to 2-0 in the 56th minute and Jessica Nellis would later add an insurance goal for West Chester. Alex Swayze chipped in with two assists.

The marked the end of an era for two La Salle seniors. Colleen Nesbitt and Ellen Axelsen, who were honored in a pregame ceremony, suited up for the blue and gold for the last time. Axelsen saved three shots on the day, as she ended her career as one of the finest goalkeepers in program history. Nesbitt assisted Axelsen by providing solid defense in front of her for the previous four years.
