Men's Soccer Has Five Named to NSCAA/Adidas Scholar 'East' All-Region Team

Dec. 21, 2007

PHILADELPHIA, PA- The La Salle University men's soccer team has again been recognized for academic achievements as five of Head Coach Pat Farrell's Explorers were recognized on the National Soccer Coaches Athletic Association (NSCAA)/Adidas Scholar All East Region Team.  La Salle had the most student-athletes named to the All-Region team of any men's soccer team in the East region.  The team also earned the NSCAA 2007 College Team Academic Award with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Seniors Walter McMahon (Norristown, PA) and Geoff Schaeffer (Blackwood, NJ) were named to the NSCAA/Adidas All-East Second Team, along with junior Kevin Lydic (Marlton, NJ).  Earning a spot on the NSCAA/Adidas All-East Third Team were juniors Jim Davis (Pittsgrove, NJ) and goalie Andrew Bernhard (Lancaster, PA).

McMahon, an accounting major, has already been heavily recognized this season for his academic accomplishments.  Along with the NSCAA/Adidas Scholar All-Region Second Team, the co-captain was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Star Team, along with the A-10 Academic All-Conference Team, and the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Team this season.

Joining McMahon on the Second Team is Schaeffer, who also an accounting major.  The senior co-captain had a big assist on the lone goal in a 1-0 victory on senior day over A-10 rival St. Bonaventure.  This is the second year in a row he has earned NSCAA `All-Academic' status.

Junior Lydic (Marlton, NJ) also grabbed a spot on the NSCAA/Adidas Second Team, his first such recognition.  The finance major worked equally hard on the field as a forward, scoring two game-winners for the Explorers in 2007.

On the NSCAA/Adidas Scholar Third Team were both juniors Davis and Bernhard.  Both student-athletes earned their first NSCAA/Adidas Academic Third Team recognition in 2007.  Davis is a history major that played a big role in the Explorer's midfield in 2007.  He was named to the Philadelphia Soccer Seven Honor Roll after notching a goal against Penn in a double-overtime match.  Goalie Bernhard is a computer science major who made an impact for the Explorers in net, earning both A-10 'Co-Player of the Week' and Philadelphia Soccer 7 'Player of the Week' honors during the season.
