Wagner Seizes Opportunities to Roll to 28-0 Win

Staten Island, NY - Running back Jason Butler took the first Wagner (6-3) play from scrimmage 75 yards for a touchdown and finished with 269 yards rushing to lead the Seahawks to a 28-0 win over the La Salle Explorers (0-8) on Saturday afternoon at Wagner Stadium. The Explorers, who were shut out for the second time this season, kept the game close and threatened to cut a 14-0 Wagner lead in half when they had a first and goal inside the Seahawk two-yard line with five minutes and 16 seconds left in the half. However, three rushing attempts by Rayvon Williams, and another by quarterback Joe Procopio were stopped short and the Explorers turned the ball over on downs. The drive started when the Explorers recovered Al Phillips' muffed punt return on the 18-yard line. With just under three minutes remaining in the third quarter the Explorers were on the move again and had driven the ball to the Wagner 25-yard line when Tom Larsen picked off Procopio's pass and took it 53 yards back to the
The Explorers' Deric Dudinski fumbled the ensuing kick-off and two plays later The Explorers did force three turnovers with Carmen Aliberti grabbing his second interception of the season when Wagner went to the end zone on fourth and goal from the eight yard line with eight second in the half. Casey Walsh also recovered Abbey's fumbled snap in the second half. The Explorers will be back in action with the final road game and final MAAC Football League game of the season on Saturday, November 10th with kick-off scheduled for 1:00 PM at Rooney Field. |
