Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University Baseball team won its second game of the season with a 9-5 victory over visiting Long Island on Friday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field, as Brian Meagher was 3-for-4 with four RBI.

The Blackbirds were up 1-0 after one, but La Salle scored three times in the bottom of the second to take lead. TJ Chism and Kevin Jones hit back-to-back one-out singles which was followed by a Mike Dertouzos RBI double, scoring Chism.

Jones would make it 2-1 - scoring on a passed ball - and Dertouzos scored on Meagher's first hit of the game - an RBI double.

It was 4-1 after three after John Rickards hit a two-out triple and scored on a Chism single. For Rickards, it was his 14th career triple - just one shy of tying the school's all-time record of 15 held by Steve O'Donnell (1986-89).

Long Island (0-10) would put one run across the plate in the fourth and two more in the top of the sixth. Anthony Amatucci - who was 2-for-3 with two RBI in the game - doubled home James Jones to tie the score at 4-all.

La Salle responded with a three-run bottom of the frame - as the bottom of the order came through again. Jones hit a one-out single, which was followed by Dertouzos' second double of the game.

Meagher and Shane Frangiosa then hit back-to-back RBI singles to break the score and Rick Gehman plated another with a hard grounder that the Blackbird shortstop could not control.

The Explorers added two more in the seventh as Rickards led off with a double - his second hit of the day. Dertouzos would draw a two-out walk just before Meagher plated both with his first career triple - making it 9-4.

Drew Gerhart registered a no-decision despite pitching five innings and allowing just two earned runs. Chism (1-1) earned the win in two innings of relief, while Kenny Cedel (0-2) suffered the Long Island loss.

The Explorers (2-13) will now play a doubleheader Saturday (a schedule change) with Binghamton, starting at 12 PM at Hank DeVincent Field.
