La Salle Competes at Two Events this weekend

April 19, 2008

La Salle University Rowing split time this weekend as the Women raced in the Atlantic 10 Championships on the Cooper River and the Men took part in the Kerr Cup on the Schuylkill River.

The Women entered two boats into the A-10s, with the Women's Varsity 4 winning the Petite Final in a time of 9:01.0, more than 18 seconds ahead of Dayton. The Women's Varsity 8 took third in the Petite Final, stopping the clock in 8:06.5.

Rhode Island scored a major upset in the overall standings, winning the Atlantic 10 Women's Rowing team title for the first time ever and dethroning 12-time champion Massachusetts. The 12 straight A-10 titles for the Minutewomen was the longest in any sport in A-10 history.

For the first time in the A-10's 13-year history of hosting a Women's Rowing Championship, they selected an All-Conference team. La Salle's Becky Mahney was named to the A-10 Second Team for her effort for La Salle.

Full results, release and All-Conference Teams can be viewed at the Atlantic 10's website.

Meanwhile, the Men were racing four boats in the Schuylkill on Saturday in the Kerr Cup (the Colonial Athletic Conference Championships).

The Varsity 4 took gold in its race, crossing the line in 7:07.69, just two seconds ahead of Philadelphia University.

The Varsity 8 (6:21.25) and Novice 4 (7:25.22) each placed third in their respective events, while the Junior Varsity 8 took fourth in 6:48.12.

The complete Men's results can be viewed at Kerr Cup results.

La Salle has two more events this spring. The Explorers will compete in the Bergen Cup on the Schuylkill River this Saturday, then will race in the Dad Vail Championships, May 9-10.
