Project TeamWork

The Mission of Project TeamWork

Handshake

Project TeamWork is a youth outreach and community service project sponsored by La Salle University's Division of Intercollegiate Athletics. Project TeamWork utilizes La Salle student-athletes and coaches as mentors and role models to youth who need academic, social, and/or emotional support.

Who are Project TeamWork Mentors?

Project TeamWork mentors are La Salle student-athletes and coaches who serve as mentors and role models for Philadelphia area youth. Student-athletes must meet program criteria and have an interest in helping children in the local community.

Project TeamWork and the Philadelphia Community Project TeamWork supports the following community-based organizations and programs in the Philadelphia area:

  • Big Brothers/Big Sisters Association
  • Catholic Youth Organization
  • Philadelphia Catholic League
  • Police Athletic League
  • Philadelphia Department of Recreation
  • Philadelphia Inner City Games
  • Pop Warner Football
  • Boy & Girl Scouts of Southeastern PA
  • Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis
  • Sonny Hill League

Project TeamWork Services

Mentoring/Role Modeling: As mentors, La Salle student-athletes serve as peer advisors and as "big brothers or big sisters" to youth in the local community.

Tutoring

Student-athletes volunteer their time to tutor area youth in cooperation with the La Salle Mentoring Program.

Campus Visitations

Campus visits are arranged to bring youth to the La Salle campus to experience college life and to make educational attainment a goal.

Speakers Bureau

Coaches, athletes, professors and administrators speak with area youth about staying in school, leadership skills, and staying away from gangs, drugs, and alcohol to reduce "at risk" behavior.

Clinics and Workshops

Many athletic teams sponsor or participate in clinics which teach techniques and principles of their sport.

Explorer Incentive Program

Project TeamWork youth are provided with incentives for positive behavior (e.g., tickets to La Salle athletic events). Athletes and coaches encourage the setting and achievement of goals.

Explorer Kids

Corporate and individual levels of sponsorship allow children to attend athletic events and be recognized for their accomplishments.

Adopt-A-School /Adopt-A-Center Program

La Salle teams and student-athletes will adopt area schools and youth centers and coordinate special programs for youth and their families.
